1. Overview
On 11 April 2023, Neftaly, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Social Development, successfully conducted a full-day Systems Development training session for 14 participants in Diepsloot. This initiative forms part of Neftaly’s broader strategy to empower individuals with technical and job-relevant skills required in today’s digital economy.
2. Objectives of the Training
- To introduce participants to the foundational concepts of systems development
- To develop basic programming and software development skills
- To enhance employment opportunities in the tech sector through practical IT training
- To encourage problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking among participants
3. Training Content Covered
The training session covered the following core topics:
- Introduction to Systems Development – understanding the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
- Programming Basics – variables, data types, conditionals, and loops using Python
- Software Design Concepts – user requirements, interface design, and system architecture basics
- Database Fundamentals – introduction to data storage, tables, and simple queries using SQL
- Project Work – small group activity to design a simple application prototype
4. Participant Engagement
- All 14 participants were actively engaged throughout the training session
- The group took part in coding demonstrations and practical exercises
- Participants worked collaboratively on a mini-project, applying their learning
- Questions and discussions were encouraged, resulting in dynamic participation and peer learning
