BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT
Diepsloot is a densely populated township where many young people, students, job seekers, and small business owners face limited access to affordable digital and printing services. Most community members travel far other extensions to access internet cafés, printing shops, and computer services, which increases their expenses and time burden.
SayProCDR has long served the community through youth development, skills training, and social support programmes. However, the organisation currently relies heavily on external funding and donations, which are not always consistent. To strengthen financial sustainability, SayProCDR proposes the establishment of a small community-based internet café that will operate as an income-generating project while still serving the needs of Diepsloot residents and surrounding areas at affordable rates. This initiative aligns with SayProCDR’s mission to empower youth, support local entrepreneurship, and promote economic participation in the community.
PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The primary purposes of the internet café are to:
- Generate steady monthly income for SayProCDR
- Reduce financial dependence on donors
- Fund the purchase and maintenance of office equipment
- Contribute towards staff salaries and future salary increases
- Create job opportunities for local volunteers and youth
- Improve digital access for community members
- Support job seekers with CV typing, printing, and online applications
- Assist small businesses with branding and design services
This project will function as both a business initiative and a social service project.

BUSINESS MODEL AND INCOME GENERATION STRATEGY
The internet café will operate as a social enterprise under SayProCDR, meaning:

- Profits will be reinvested into SayPro programmes
- No individual will personally profit from the business
Key income streams include:
- Printing and photocopying services
- CV typing and formatting
- Logo and graphic design services
- Online application assistance
- Poster and notice printing
- Laminating services
- Business and organisation registrations
We anticipate that business/company registration services will be a major income driver, as many local entrepreneurs require registration and branding for their businesses, flyers, and marketing materials.
MONTHLY FINANCIAL TARGETS
The financial goals of the internet café are realistic and structured in phases:
Phase 1 – First 3 months (Startup period)
- Focus on community awareness and marketing
- Build a loyal customer base
- Test service demand and adjust pricing if necessary Phase 2 – After 3 months
- Generate at least R6,000 per month Phase 3 – Long-term goal
- Generate R10,000 per month on a consistent basis
This income will support:
- Equipment upgrades
- Staff stipends
- Operational costs (paper, ink, maintenance)

- DAILY AND WEEKLY CASH MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
To ensure financial transparency and accountability, SayProCDR will implement a strong cash control system:
- Every cash transaction will be recorded daily
- A Cash Receipts Journal will be created and maintained by the Development Manager
- Each service provided will be logged with date, amount, and type of service
- At the end of each week, total income will be calculated and presented to management
- A monthly financial summary will be prepared for record-keeping
This system will prevent mismanagement of funds and promote financial discipline.
- EMPLOYMENT AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The internet café will contribute to local employment by:
- Providing part-time work for volunteers
- Offering practical digital and business skills
- Creating pathways to future employment
- Supporting possible salary increases for existing SayPro human capital
