1. Overview
On 26 January 2024, Neftaly, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Social Development, successfully delivered a full-day ICT Basic Skills training session to 3 participants. This initiative forms part of Neftaly’s ongoing commitment to empowering individuals with essential digital skills that foster economic participation and personal development.
2. Objectives of the Training
- To introduce participants to basic Information and Communication Technology (ICT) concepts
- To develop digital literacy and foundational computer usage skills
- To enhance employability by equipping participants with practical digital competencies
- To strengthen collaborative partnerships for inclusive skills development
3. Training Content Covered
The session focused on the following ICT fundamentals:
- Introduction to ICT: Understanding hardware, software, and the impact of ICT in everyday life
- Basic Computer Operations: Using the keyboard, mouse, and navigating the desktop environment
- Microsoft Office Basics: Introduction to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Internet and Email Use: Accessing the web, using search engines, and creating/managing email accounts
- Digital Communication: Effective and appropriate use of email, messaging platforms, and other online tools
4. Participant Engagement
- All 3 participants were fully engaged in theoretical and hands-on training activities
- Group discussions and practical sessions allowed for collaborative learning and skill reinforcement
- A brief pre- and post-training assessment indicated clear improvement in digital knowledge
- Participants expressed gratitude and enthusiasm for the opportunity to enhance their ICT skills

Recommendations:

- Explore access to devices and data to enable practice at home
7. Conclusion
The ICT Basic Skills training conducted on 26 January 2024 by Neftaly, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Social Development, was a successful and impactful initiative.
