Key Responsibility: Oversee the Implementation and Optimization of the Sustainable Travel Program

As part of Neftaly’s broader environmental strategy, the Sustainability Program Manager plays a central role in leading the implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of the company’s Sustainable Travel Program. This responsibility ensures that travel policies, systems, and employee behaviors align with Neftaly’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while maintaining operational efficiency.

1. Program Implementation

a. Strategic Planning

  • Develop a comprehensive implementation roadmap for the Sustainable Travel Program, aligning it with Neftaly’s environmental goals and corporate travel needs.
  • Identify short-, medium-, and long-term milestones to guide the phased rollout of the program.
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure adoption, carbon reduction, cost-efficiency, and employee engagement.

b. Policy Development

  • Work with leadership, legal, procurement, and HR teams to create or revise travel policies that embed sustainability principles, such as:
    • Preference for low-emission transportation
    • Mandated carbon offsetting for certain flights
    • Incentives for using virtual meeting alternatives
  • Ensure policies are practical, inclusive, and well-communicated across the organization.

c. Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Coordinate with internal teams (e.g., IT, Finance, Procurement, Travel Services) to integrate sustainability into business travel systems and processes.
  • Partner with external stakeholders, such as green-certified vendors and travel platforms, to ensure seamless program support and alignment with sustainability criteria.

2. System Integration and Tools Optimization

a. Booking System Enhancement

  • Oversee the integration of sustainable travel features into Neftaly’s travel booking platform, such as:
    • Filters for eco-certified hotels and vendors
    • Emissions comparison tools for different travel modes
    • Automated default settings favoring greener travel options

b. Data Management

  • Collaborate with data analysts and IT teams to ensure that the booking system captures relevant sustainability metrics (e.g., carbon output per trip, sustainable option uptake).
  • Maintain a feedback loop to identify system bugs, user experience issues, or data gaps and implement improvements promptly.

3. Employee Engagement and Change Management

  • Develop change management strategies to promote awareness and adoption of the sustainable travel program.
  • Create internal campaigns, training sessions, and support materials that educate employees on:
    • The environmental impact of their travel decisions
    • How to use the booking platform’s sustainability features
    • The company’s travel policy and its relevance to climate goals
  • Encourage and facilitate employee participation through recognition, incentives, and open communication channels.

4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Optimization

a. Performance Tracking

  • Monitor KPIs related to program performance, such as:
    • Percentage of business travel done via sustainable modes
    • Total reduction in travel-related carbon emissions
    • Employee compliance with green travel policies
  • Identify underperforming areas and investigate root causes using data and employee feedback.

b. Program Optimization

  • Continuously improve the program based on quantitative results and qualitative input.
  • Stay up to date with new technologies, vendor offerings, industry benchmarks, and regulatory changes to enhance program impact.
  • Recommend and implement iterative updates to policies, processes, and tools for ongoing alignment with best practices and employee needs.

5. Reporting and Leadership Communication

  • Provide regular reports to senior leadership and the Director of Sustainability, detailing:
    • Progress against sustainability targets
    • Notable achievements and areas for improvement
    • Strategic recommendations for scaling or refining the program
  • Support the development of annual sustainability reports or internal audits by supplying accurate and timely travel-related environmental data.

Conclusion

By overseeing the implementation and optimization of Neftaly’s Sustainable Travel Program, the Sustainability Program Manager ensures that sustainability is not just a policy—but a practical, well-integrated, and evolving aspect of company operations. This role bridges strategy and execution, aligning environmental goals with employee behaviors and business needs to create long-term value for the company and the planet.
