1. Overview
On 18 July 2023, Neftaly, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Social Development, successfully delivered advice and referral services to six (6) individuals in Johannesburg. This initiative is part of Neftaly’s commitment to providing accessible social support pathways, enabling vulnerable individuals to connect with relevant services for long-term well-being and empowerment.
2. Objectives of the Program
- To provide accurate and timely advice to individuals in need of social support
- To refer beneficiaries to appropriate government and community services
- To promote informed decision-making and access to essential resources
- To strengthen referral networks and cross-sector collaboration
3. Support Services Delivered
The session included the following key support areas:
- Social Grants Advice – guidance on eligibility and application for SASSA grants
- Employment and Skills Development – referral to training and job placement programmes
- Substance Abuse and Psychosocial Support – referral to local counselling and rehabilitation centres
- Gender-Based Violence Support – information and referral to relevant shelters and legal aid
- Youth and Child Welfare Services – referral to child protection and youth development resources
4. Participant Engagement
All 6 participants actively engaged in one-on-one consultations with the Neftaly social support team. Each case was treated with confidentiality and respect, with participants encouraged to ask questions and share their personal circumstances. Referral letters and contact details of relevant service providers were provided.
5. Outcomes and Impact
- Six individuals received tailored advice and were referred to appropriate social and government services
- Beneficiaries expressed a sense of relief and hope after receiving structured guidance
- Improved awareness among participants of available support systems
- Strengthened Neftaly’s reputation as a trusted access point for social development services
6. Challenges and Recommendations
Challenges:
- Limited immediate placement options for certain services such as substance abuse rehabilitation
- Some participants lacked necessary documentation for referrals
Recommendations:
- Advocate for expedited pathways in high-need cases through departmental escalation
- Provide pre-referral support to help beneficiaries gather required documents
- Continue building partnerships with diverse service providers for faster turnaround

The advice and referral services provided on 18 July 2023 by Neftaly, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Social Development, represent a critical step in connecting individuals with the support they need. This initiative reinforces the value of accessible community-based services in achieving social inclusion, stability, and empowerment for vulnerable populations.
