- OverviewOn 01 September 2020, Neftaly, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Social Development, successfully conducted a Youth Mobilization session for a large group of 42 participants. This initiative aimed at engaging young individuals, motivating them toward community action, personal development, and active participation in social and economic opportunities.
- Objectives of the TrainingTo inspire and empower youth to take active roles in their communities.To facilitate discussions on challenges facing young people in the region and identify solutions.To introduce concepts of leadership, civic responsibility, and entrepreneurial thinking.To connect participants with available resources and support networks.
- Training Content CoveredThe session focused on the following key Youth Mobilization areas:
Personal Vision and Goal Setting – helping participants define their future paths.
Community Needs Assessment – identifying pressing issues in Diepsloot.
Introduction to Leadership – understanding different leadership styles and their application.
Networking and Resource Mapping – understanding how to leverage local resources.
Action Planning – guiding participants in creating simple plans for community projects or personal upskilling.
- Participant EngagementAll 42 participants were highly engaged, contributing passionately to the discussions despite the larger group size.Interactive exercises, including brainstorming future community projects, were utilized, leveraging small breakout groups to ensure participation.Participants shared personal stories and experiences related to motivation and challenges.Feedback indicated a strong sense of renewed purpose and a clear understanding of the next steps.

- Challenges and RecommendationsChallenges:
Managing discussions and ensuring every participant had an opportunity to speak was challenging due to the high attendance of 42 participants.
Maintaining focus and energy throughout the full-day session in a large group setting.
Recommendations:
For sessions with over 40 participants, consider co-facilitation or the use of more structured small-group activities with designated report-back leaders.
Provide follow-up communication to the newly formed peer groups to encourage continued activity and support.
Schedule dedicated networking time to allow participants to connect one-on-one.
- ConclusionThe Youth Mobilization session delivered on 01 September 2020 by Neftaly, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Social Development, was highly successful despite the large attendance. It was effective in inspiring and equipping 42 young people with motivational tools and a sense of direction, reaffirming the commitment of both organizations to empowering the youth of Diepsloot.
