Neftaly HEAL Project Event Report
Event Name: Health Education and Wellness

1. Introduction
On the 11th of June 2025, the Neftaly HEAL Project successfully hosted a Health Education and Wellness event in Diepsloot. The event aimed to educate the community—especially young people—about key health issues including sexually transmitted infections (STIs), gender-based violence (GBV), and general disease prevention. This initiative was a collaborative effort between local health professionals and community stakeholders to empower the community with accurate health information and improved access to services.
2. Health Education: STI and Disease Prevention Session
Health Promoter: Mr. Sylven Malele from Rhiza Babuyile Clinic
Mr. Sylven Malele led a dynamic and informative session focused on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and general disease prevention. The presentation included topics such as:
- Types of STIs, their symptoms, and long-term consequences if left untreated
- Prevention strategies including condom use and regular testing
- Myths and facts around sexual health and STIs
- How and where to access treatment services
The session concluded with an open Community Q&A which allowed participants to engage directly with the health promoter. This interactive segment created a safe space for individuals to ask personal or sensitive questions in a non-judgmental environment.
Anticipated Outcomes of Session 1:
- Improved knowledge of STIs and their prevention
- Reduced stigma around sexual health conversations
- Encouraged early testing and treatment
- Promoted informed and responsible sexual decision-making
3. Health Care Wellness & GBV Awareness Session
Testing and Health Services Provided By: Vuselela Team from OR Tambo Clinic, Diepsloot EXT 2
The second component of the event focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness and access to health services. The Vuselela Team provided:
- On-site HIV Testing
- Health screenings
- Distribution of contraceptives and PrEP information
Participants were also sensitized on issues of GBV, including:
- What constitutes GBV and how to recognize abuse
- How and where to report GBV cases
- The importance of consent, boundaries, and healthy relationships
- Available support services for survivors of GBV
Anticipated Outcomes of Session 2:
- Increased understanding of GBV and reporting procedures
- Empowered individuals to take control of their sexual and physical health
- Improved access to preventive care including PrEP and condoms
- Strengthened community awareness on healthy relationships
4. Task Team Involvement
The event was made possible through the active involvement and dedication of the Neftaly HEAL Project task team. The following members played key roles in planning, organizing, and supporting the event activities:
- Daniel Makano – Welcoming our visitors and making sure people sign the register
- Tumelo Makano – Monitoring and taking of pictures.
- Andrice Macuacua – Crowd control and introduction of the visitors.
- Obakeng Mahwai – Crowd management

5. Conclusion
The Health Education and Wellness event achieved its goal of educating the community and providing access to vital health services. Through collaboration with Rhiza Babuyile Clinic and the Vuselela Team from OR Tambo Clinic, the event reached a significant number of youth and community members, leaving them better informed, empowered, and supported in matters of health and wellbeing.
The HEAL Project continues to play a vital role in bridging the gap between communities and health services, fostering a culture of awareness, prevention, and empowerment.
